BLAST OFF!!!
A WEEK OF EVENTS ON THE ISLE OF WIGHT TO INSPIRE OUR KIDS TO AIM HIGH
As you can see from the rest of this website, STEAM Co. is busy as a UK non-profit project run by parents, teachers and artists to help our kids dream, find their passion, their art.
One child’s Art might be Painting, another’s Art might be Photography. Cooking or Coding, Fashion or Football, Robots or Rockets. Whatever, if it connects them to their future.
And we’re bringing National Careers Week to Schools on the Isle of Wight for a week to get the community behind their kids and their art.
As an Isle of Wight Art Takeover - though it is already bursting with creativity.
We hope you will join us.
If you’re a member of the community of the Isle of Wight that would like to attend one of the two after school events - whether a parent, employer, teacher or other creative carer , download the invite over there and read more below.
If you’re a school,. we still have a few slots available on Monday and Friday for half day sessions. Info below.
WHAT A FANTASTIC WEEK
We’ve run our #WhatsYourArt Sessions in 5 Primary Schools and Two Secondary Schools in our collaboration with the Isle of Wight Education Federation and the Solent LEP for National Careers Week. 2,000 young people. Just brilliant.
And that’s not all. We also held a free book launch event after school in Newport Library and a Junior Art Activist Workshop, Saturday Morning at Quay Arts.
THRIVING SKILLS FOR KIDS
COMMUNITY SCREENING/DEBATE
WedS 6.30 – 9.30pm Medina College, NEWPORT, IoW
A community screening of epic award winning creative education film ‘Most Likely to Succeed’. Join the panel discussion after to discuss points raised.
Many schools today seem to follow the same approach: students go to class, memorise concepts and facts and take tests where they regurgitate everything they’ve learned.
This style of education may have worked well in the industrial age, in which most workers only needed to learn how to complete a task and then repeat it over and over again. But in today’s context of constant innovation, many feel a new approach to education is needed.
So, how might we update our education system to fit the needs of today’s economy? Put simply, we shouldn’t be focusing on teaching students what to learn, but how to learn. This way, the next generation will be better equipped to tackle the challenges of the future with creativity and adaptability.

NATIONAL CAREERS WEEK 2020
Once again we are delighted to collaborate with #NCW2020 on our #COLLABORATE20 year.
As you can see here, the last time we did, we went from Cornwall to Carlisle, running sessions in Primary Schools along the way.
It exists to promote the importance of good careers education in schools and colleges, founded and backed by a number of volunteers with a wealth of experience from education, business and careers guidance.
"Collaboration and sharing good practice are core values of National Careers Week 2020 and it is important that these messages reach young people, teachers and families in every corner of the UK. We are therefore delighted to be collaborating with STEAM Co. and the Isle of Wight Education Federation working with Primary and Secondary Schools communities on the island for the week".
