LIFT OFF… WELL, SORT OF

There’s another old saying “The plane took off before we’d finished building it”.

It refers to people who aim high in life, who are ambitious, but there’s never enough time to finish things because you can always tweak this and polish that, and try something different in that hole.

If you need to go some where, far, high you’ll probably need to fly so you’ll need a plane and maybe have to build one.

(While you’re here, have a look at the first 10 seconds of the film over there that we made to look back at our #ARTCONNECTS19 year and ahead to this, our #COLLABORATE20 year.

To get that proverbial plane off the ground, it will need a few basic things - like a propeller, a few wings and it’s nice if the pilot has a seat but everyone else can sit on the floor.

Better still they could take some tools and make themselves a seat, and floor, and walls and a luggage locker!

Well the Rocket Kids Club is a bit like that.

We know here we want to go - somewhere where kids and creative carers can hang out, be inspired, make things and share them, and be inspired and go round the creative loop again.

And we have a rough idea of how to get there, but we want to build it with you ,in the spirit both of our #COLLABORATE20 year but also the Co. in STEAM Co. which stands for Collaboration (as well as many other words yo care to mention starting with Co!)

WHAT DO WE WANT OF THE ROCKET KIDS CLUB?

We want to build a online community together, that shows we are better together and have more in common, that is:

  • SAFE - where everyone is there for the right reasons, knows how to behave and understands why they’ve been asked to step outside for chat and understands our ‘no quibble rule’.

  • INSPIRING - where the most exciting, original and creative thinking and doing will be seen and shared.

  • SHARING - where we will all make and do things, to show and share with others to build on for the common good.

  • CARING - where we all care, care about what we do, make and think, and what others do, make and think.

  • INCLUSIVE - where everyone is equal, regardless of where they come from, live or go to school, eat ,think, like or love. We aren’t about politics but are about policy and will criticise anyone who doesn’t share our vision and values around creativity, children and all our futures.

  • PROTECTIVE - in the way we would when we’re out and about, we look out for each other and each other’s kids. We keep them on the straight and narrow and tell them if they’re not and certainly step in if others try to wobble them off the line. No quibble.
